There’s not just one Murphy’s Irish Pub in Berlin. No, here comes another Murphy’s Irish Pub … this time directly at Checkpoint Charlie. Here, too, the Irish pub attracts many tourists due to its attractive location.
The entrance area of Murphy’s at Checkpoint Charlie is a real eye-catcher. We were greeted by a Zoltar Speaks machine. A very unusual accessory for an Irish pub, but definitely something special.

Our visit to Murphy’s Irish Pub at Checkpoint Charlie started at around 7pm on a Wednesday evening. A few small tables were still free, even though it didn’t look particularly full at first glance. However, many of the tables were already reserved. We were lucky and managed to get a free table for two right at the back of the pub.
After a few minutes, we were able to place our order and immediately had our first Guinness at the table.

Ambience
The ambience of Murphy’s Irish Pub at Checkpoint Charlie is immediately reminiscent of an Irish pub. The wood-panelled walls and the many accessories, such as shelves with books or various bottles of whisky, immediately make it feel very cosy and inviting. As we were there at Christmas time, there were additional Christmas decorations with snowmen and illuminated stars.
When you enter Murphy’s at Checkpoint Charlie, you enter directly into the large interior, which is separated by simple wooden partitions. The bar is straight ahead and there are more tables to the left. There are several tables for larger and smaller groups with chairs or simple stools.
At Murphy’s at Checkpoint Charlie, the focus on Wednesday evening was on soccer. Many visitors were only in the pub for this reason and the games were later shown on all the screens.
There was relatively little music to be heard throughout the evening. It was turned down very low and only audible for a short time when there were no games on.
The toilets at Murphy’s at Checkpoint Charlie were very clean throughout the evening. There are also relatively many toilets here. However, the toilets have relatively little to do with the rest of the pub’s ambience.

Friendliness
On our arrival we were kindly served in English by the waitress. However, there were both English and German-speaking service staff throughout the evening. Everyone was very gentle and accomodating.
Even if they sometimes seemed to get a little confused with the orders. The wrong orders were often brought to the tables next to us throughout the evening and we were once served two beers that we hadn’t ordered.
Drinks
The drinks menu at Murphy’s at Checkpoint Charlie corresponds almost 1:1 to the drinks menu at Murphy’s Irish Pub on Friedrichstraße.
Murphy’s Red and Stout are on tap. Newcastle Brown Ale is also on the menu again. And of course Guinness is also on the menu.
Strongbow Cider is available on tap.
Murphy’s Irish Pub at Checkpoint Charlie even has a taster (tasting board with 3 beers) for anyone who is undecided and has always wanted to try several varieties.
The only mixed beer drink available is Midnight (Guinness and port).
There is also a separate whisky menu with more than 80 different whiskies from all over the world.
Unfortunately, the shot menu does not include any special shots, such as the Irish Flag Shot. So we ordered 2 Bailey’s. Unfortunately, only one could be delivered because the Bailey’s had run out. What a pity.

Food
Murphy’s at Checkpoint Charlie also has a menu with typical Irish dishes ranging from Irish stew to a sophisticated steak offer.
The relatively large menu of vegetarian dishes is particularly striking.
After trying an Irish stew with lamb in the last pub, we wanted to try an Irish stew with beef today for comparison.
The stew also came in a deep plate, but looked rather less appetizing at first glance. Let’s put it this way, we were very hungry, but this Irish stew really wasn’t that tasty.
As we were still hungry after the Irish stew, we ordered another portion of nachos topped with cheese straight afterwards. The nachos came with 2 dipping sauces. It was enough to satisfy our appetite for a pub night. However, the dish really wasn’t that exciting. However, nachos topped with cheese are probably never really exciting.
Unfortunately, Murphy’s at Checkpoint Charlie didn’t have any other smaller snack options. Perhaps the vegetarian menu is tastier. Unfortunately, we can’t give the food at Murphy’s at Checkpoint Charlie a really good rating.
