Due to its location, Murphy’s Irish Pub in Friedrichstraße is automatically a place where many tourists linger. But anyone expecting a tourist trap is completely wrong. Murphy’s is nevertheless a friendly Irish pub that is characterized by its typical Irish ambience and lively atmosphere.
We visited Murphy’s Irish Pub on a Wednesday evening at around 7pm. When we arrived, there were no tables available. So we first took a seat at the long bar.
Despite a full house, we were approached directly by the waitress behind the bar and had our first Guinness in front of us after a few minutes.
For more than two people, we recommend making a reservation, which can easily be done via the website. We were lucky and after a short time, a small table became free, to which we then moved without any problems.

Ambience
The ambience in Murphy’s is a little different to other Irish pubs due to the modern glass front. However, they have managed to create a cozy atmosphere despite this. Shelves have been put up on the glass front, displaying various Irish memorabilia.
Inside Murphy’s Irish Pub there are lots of tables and a small stage. Especially when it is already dark outside, you completely forget the glass fronts and feel like you are in any other pub.
The toilets at Murphy’s are very clean and modern. The black and white tiles with the green door frames and ceilings give a very special look. All in all, very inviting.
Friendliness
As Murphy’s is probably often very busy, the staff are very well prepared for this. We rarely had to wait for drinks and were served in a very friendly manner. There were several waiters who were all very attentive throughout the evening.
The only thing is that the opening hours are very strict. Shortly before midnight, care is taken to ensure that all guests are soon in the mood to leave. If necessary, paper cups are even offered for the drinks so that they can be taken away. However, the staff remained friendly at all times and who can blame them for wanting to call it a day after a long shift.
There is live music every evening at Murphy’s. During our visit, an artist started playing old and new pop hits on his guitar later in the evening. The audience sang along enthusiastically to hits such as “I want it that way” and “Country Roads”. The atmosphere was definitely heated up by the music throughout the evening.
You can find out what program is on offer in the evening and who is playing live music on the Murphy’s Irish Pub Facebook page.
There is also a pub quiz once a month.

Drinks
Don’t let the name deceive you, there is of course more here than just the famous Murphy’s beer. Guinness is also traditionally tapped in Murphy’s Irish Pub in Friedrichstraße. You’ll find Murphy’s Red and another stout on the menu. There is also Newcastle Brown Ale on tap.
All beers can also be ordered by the pitcher.
Mixed beer drinks are also available, e.g. Black & Tan (Guinness and Murphy’s).
There is also a separate whisky menu with more than 80 different whiskeys from all over the world.
We also enjoyed the shot menu again, as our favorite shots, the Irish Flag Shot and Baby Guinness were both offered. As always, both shots were delicious!

Food / Snacks
We were already looking forward to the food at Murphy’s in advance and were not disappointed when we arrived.
To get us in the mood for the evening, we first shared a portion of onion rings. These were super tasty and perfect for sharing.
In addition to other finger food, such as chicken wings and nachos, Murphy’s Irish Pub also serves burgers and sandwiches.
The menu also includes typical Irish dishes such as Irish stew, shepherd’s pie and bangers and mash.
What is special is that the Irish stew is available in two versions: with beef or “traditional” with lamb.
As we had never seen this traditional version in an Irish pub before, we both ordered the Irish stew with lamb.
These were served in a deep plate with 2 slices of toast and were delicious from the first to the last spoonful. The meat was totally tender and the whole dish was perfectly seasoned.
Highly recommended!
