The Shamrock Pub in Berlin Zehlendorf scores points at first glance with its beautiful building façade. Located in the immediate vicinity of Zehlendorf S-Bahn station, it is also easily accessible from other parts of Berlin. We visit the Shamrock Pub on a Saturday and are surprised by the quiet atmosphere in the pub when we arrive at around 8:30 pm. As the evening progresses, however, all the tables fill up and the pub comes to life.
As soon as you enter the Shamrock Pub, you stand in front of the bar. Unfortunately, there is no seating right next to the bar, which somewhat dampens the pub atmosphere. If you continue left into the premises, you will find red corner sofas with an embroidered logo along the walls, which look very new and chic. There are also several tables at the back of the room.
There was a screen for sports broadcasts in the non-smoking area. The European Handball Championship was initially shown on this screen and later in the evening public broadcasts were simply shown. All without sound, of course, so that didn’t bother anyone. It was fine for checking the score on the side, but not the right atmosphere to get directly involved in a game. Music from the 80s was blaring from the loudspeakers all evening.
There is a pool table in a separate area. This was not yet occupied when we arrived and there were always time slots during the evening when a game could be started.
The toilets are located at the end of the rear room. There are separate toilets for men and women. The toilets were clean until late in the evening, but the walls and doors had strange holes that had been plugged with paper towels. It was also not possible to lock the women’s toilet.
Smoking is not permitted in most of the indoor area.
However, we have discovered a separate smoking area here for the first time. You will find this directly at the entrance on the right-hand side.Behind the door to the smoking area you will find more seating and slot machines.
Friendliness
The bartender brings the cards directly to the table as you enter and was also very quick at the beginning of the evening with taking the order and bringing the drinks.
Over the course of the evening, however, the frequency became less and less. This was mainly due to the fact that tap beer could no longer be served. The staff said that the CO2 cylinders had run out.
In other words, neither Guinness nor Murphys could still be served. This is not an ideal situation for a Saturday evening, but it shouldn’t bother us any further. However, we would have appreciated some timely communication from the staff. We only found this out after we asked at the bar ourselves and only after we became too impatient after nobody came to our table for over 45 minutes.
The Shamrock Pub accepts both cash and card payments.
Drinks
The selection of drinks meets the expectations of an Irish pub. There is the must-have of an Irish pub – Guinness. Which we traditionally order first again. Other mixed beer drinks, such as Poor Man’s Black Velvet, are also on the menu. In addition to Guinness, there is also Murphys on tap.
As usual, Magners is on the cider menu.
There is a whisky menu with Irish and Scottish whiskies. In addition, you can even order different whisky samples, where you have the opportunity to try 5 whiskies as 2cl shots.
The special Irish Flag shot particularly appealed to Nico, as this shot combination consists of peppermint schnapps, Berliner Luft and Kruskovac. As a self-confessed Balkan fan, Nico was particularly impressed by the latter. The 3 shots are based on the Irish flag and are a highlight of our visit to the pub.
While we were impressed by the Irish Flag Shot, we were unfortunately very disappointed by the Baileys Shot. This was served in a very large whisky glass with an ice cube. It felt like the liquid only took up 1mm of the glass. There could have been a little more Baileys in the glass.

Food / Snacks
There is no food in the Shamrock Pub. You should therefore start your visit to the pub with a good foundation.
At first we thought there wouldn’t even be any snacks, but then we discovered a small vending machine right at the entrance where you could buy peanuts.
